How Hayes Of Redmond Screwed Me
#1
A guy in the mid-west had a freshly rebuilt street ported motor still on the shipping pallet for sale. It was a Hayes rebuild. I called Hayes and asked them if they installed it would they warranty the motor. So far so good. Had the motor shipped to Hayes. So in Feb 2004 I dropped my car off at Hayes with a brand new RB 80 psi oil regulator and the turbo removed. I ask Hayes to ship the Turbo to RX7 store because I wanted a BNR stage 3. Ordered a Greedy FMIC, 1600 secondaries, K2RD fuel rail, and a Microtech with a hand set from RX Store which I had shipped directly to Hayes. So far so good, I usually like to do my own work but Im thinking if I mod the motor I could void the warranty and besides, Don Hayes is a personable fellow who works on RX7's every day.
Now comes the suffering.
1. Don Hayes shipped my turbo to the wrong place, RX7 Trix's, and it's lost for 2 months.
2. I told Don Hayes that I was going to need a BOV and a FPR to go with the FMIC and the new fuel rail but he insisted that I didn't. Later after much delay he told me I needed the parts so I had a Areomotive FPR and Apexi Bov drop shipped to him.
3. Hayes had a bung wielded on the pipe from the turbo to the FMIC to hook up the boost pressure sensor. Of course I had to pay for that.
4. I told Don Hayes that I needed a TID because the MT didn't use a flow meter and now my filter is straped to the turbo. Minor fix.
5. Their shop closes at 3:30pm, but Don Hayes shows up at 10 am, just in time for lunch. Mabey Im in the wrong bussiness.
6. My car was broken in to, the door is fucked, stereo gone, beartracker gone, ACVR gone. They park your car outside with no security. My insrance paid $2200 for the repairs but don't cover the bear tracker $100 deductable and the door whistles now.
7. 11 months later I get my car back. Don Hayes tells me that the dongle (hand controller for the Microtech) was bad so he sent it back for warranty. So Im the owner of a fully frogamable standalone EMS with no way to program. Im driving away doing 35 mph and the EGT is showing 1500. I pull over and call Don Hayes and he says not to worry. so I drive it home to eastern WA
8. Im wondering why the EGT is so high so I decide to check the timing. The CAS is not tightened and the timing is 20 degrees retarded. Set it to 0 at Idle and its still running too hot. Why is the FCD still hooked up?
9. The car is billowing large clouds of gas and finally floods while running and won't start so I take it back to Hayes on a trailer.
10. 3 weeks later I get the car back, Don Hayes tells me he boosted my 500 mile breakin motor to 12 psi and it runs great. EGT is better drives a little better. breakin? I still don't have the MT dongle and the car keeps missing so I install a WB. While Im pulling the DP to weild a bung for the WB sensor I noitice Turbo heat shield ain't bolted down, I wondered what that noise was, and the main engine ground that attaches to the starter is not connected. Oh ****! Im running afr 16-20. Tuned and re-tuned by Hayes
11. Don Hayes insist that he put my Racing Beat 80 psi oil pressur regulator in the motor but the oil pressure is the lower than my other 2 7's so Im out anther $90 there.
I still don't have my dongle and nobody can tell me where it is. I hope the rebuilt engine is better than the rest of the work they do at Hayes.
Don Hayes you won't answer my calls unless I dial *69 first and I doubt you will explain yourself here on this either. I hate to rail on the limited resourses for our cars in the NW but you didn't even say I love you when you gave me the $3000 labor bill. Now I hope I can get my car back on the road after I get the MT rewired and tuned properly.
Just stick to oil changes because you don't know **** about RX-7's. I paid willingly for quality work. Gave you opportunities to fix your mistakes. Just the CAS being loose and the groud being off let alone the tune shows your TOTAL INCOMPITENCE.

I was talking to a kid the other day who had a s5 with a blown motor. He was planning on going through Hayes, having them install it and everything. I suggested it may be in his best interest to look around some more.

Dr. Jones,
I feel for you. I just got screwed over with Judge Ito from Jr's Rotary Performance. I sent an e-mail back awhile ago about my car which he didn't finish completely. I am still waiting back on his responce. I have more than $3000 for a car that looks like a five year old wired it up and now to finish it off and I have a dead engine, scratches all over my car, dents, and missing parts. He read my last e-mail about my inquiries and still no reply. I will post some info on a separate thread later on.
There is a lot of people that do this around here. Maybe I will put a V8 engine in my car and call it a day. I get better support from the piston guys.
Is there anybody decent in the world of rotaries that you can trust?????????

Well I seem to be good at blowing old engines. I toasted the front rotor on my 87 T2 on the dyno @ the NW roto rally. Im going to try a different rout with this car. I purchased a JDM from japan2la with 27k miles on it and 120 psi on all the seals for $1250. Also upgrading my Rteck 1.5 to a 1.7 and got the 720 secondaries. My motor blew at 5400 rpm and put down 213 hp to the wheels so if wouldn't have blown it should have done around 235 to the wheels. Too many projects. I guess its always bettere to do it yourself.
