Need Advice Between Hybrid Or T04
#1
my original plan for this summer was to run stock s5 turbo to like 13-14 psi or so with supporting mods. i also was planning on doing a mild to moderate streetport. but after driving revvin's black t2 today and noticing spool up at around 2.5k at half throttle (cleaned up ports), i realize that's not going to be much fun. so now i'm at the point of deciding between slapping together a nicely chosen hybrid or just go for a to4e or something of the sorts. right now i have a basically new s5 turbo and mani, a reasonable budget, and looking for around 300 at the wheels. i'm basically looking for the most cost effcient way of getting to my goal...

Hybrid would probably be the cheapest way but you'll regret it down the road just like changed after you drove revvin's t2.
At least tahts what i'm gonna say, i dunno ask someone with more experience i didnt even know about tire pressure being on the sidewall until today.

It really depends on your budget I think. A good hybrid will give you more than 300hp at the wheels if tuned right. They are bolt on and with only slight modification you can even use the stock suction pipe.
A larger turbo will require a manifold, wastegate, front pipe or extension. Most likely it would be better to use a front mount intercooler as well. All of that cost money and time to put together.
I ran hybrids for years and had a pretty damn fast car, it was a lot of fun but when I got a real turbo and was breaking 400hp........that was even more fun. It all depends on what you want in the future as a goal for the car and how much money you can spend. If you are going to want more performance later I would go ahead and build a foundation for it now and skip the hybrid. If 300hp is enough then go ahead and get it. You can always put money in suspension and other things.......that will make your car fast.

well, i will have a e6k, upgraded injectors, some sort of front mount, and moderate sideport. after this summer i plan on getting rid of the setup to bo bigger (over 400whp.) but for now i just want to find the cheaper way to get around 300whp. i have 2 s5 turbos and it seems that the better choice at the moment was just piece together a hybrid and sell the other turbo. but the question was originally raised because i didn't want a powerband from 3-6k..agreed?

Where do you want your powerband? That sounds like a pretty good powerband to me.
Peak power probably happens around 6300Rpms on most relativley stock motors but it should maintain close to that same HP all the way to 7500rpm
On my dyno runs the logging begins at 3000 rpm and even with a high flow I only have around 100hp at that rpm.......actually with the TD06 I had less boost but more HP at the same RPM.......

yeah, i was under the assumption that stock turbo makes peak power at like 4.5 or 5k. and then really drops off at 6.5k or so. i also thought that you want the end of your powerband to be just beyond your redline. i'm really just starting to learn about some of these things so let me know if i'm heading the right direction. anyway, does anybody have any suggestions on trim combos that work well?
