Default 1987 Mazda RX7 for sale in Washington, DC area

Hey Rotary lovers,

I am helping a friend sell his 1987 RX7. He used to have one in his college days and when he found this car last year, nostalgia set in and he had to have it. He bought it from the original owner. He says she cried when he drove it away. She had bobied the car its entire life.

He has decided that he can't give it the love it deserves so it is time to find it a good home.

The car is a GXL model so it is pretty loaded with options. 5 speed, A/C, Power windows and Door Locks, Sunroof, etc. Non Turbo.

Overall the car is in very good shape.

It is metallic Silver with a Blue interior.

The body is straight, the paint is nice except for on the front nose where the car had a bra for most of its life. There is no visible rust that I saw. The interior is very nice. No rips or tears or major fading. The dash is clean and is not cracked. The carpets do show some wear from age as to be expected but no holes.

The engine was replaced a few years ago with a new Factory engine. It starts right up and is quiet and does not smoke. When the car is cold, the idle goes up and down a bit and once it warms up, this levels out. I don't know what this is. Maybe a sensor?

The 5 speed shifts well but there is some play in the shifter so maybe the shifter bushings should be replaced. It has a fairly new clutch.

The brakes were also replaced recently. The tires are in good shape and probably have 70-80% life in them.

The things I noticed when driving it are:

The shocks feel soft and a little bouncy. I am used to a modified Datsun 510 so this may be normal but to me, they could be more firm.

The Stereo works but the speakers are really scratchy and do not sound good. They need replacement.

The shifter has some minor slop so the bushings should be replaced.

The A/C does not blow cold.

The overhead light does not work and the door light on the drivers door does not work. This could be just the bulbs but I never checked it but wanted to let you know.

The car comes with a clear Maryland Title, the original Certificate of Origin and window sticker, original owners manual, factory brochure and all the service records for the car that the original owner provided.

My friend probably paid too much for it and then put some money into it so he is taking a loss at our asking price of $2950. Cash talks and we will entertain reasonable cash offers or possible trades.

Car is located in Silver Spring, MD (Suburbs of Washington, DC)
