damn they're selling you your own engine?

 

yeah it's funny how i have to pay for what's mine. I've scraped the idea of buying my old engine. I'm gonna use the good rotor and housing from blown engine b/c my dad's friend is hooking it up with 2 new rotors anf housings for FREE!!!! I'm gonna make a stationary gear and eccentric shaft and then the two CLEAR side housings. It'll be a simple set up but should work nevertheless.



As for the design, there are only gonna be 6 parts in it (3 housing, rotor, stationary gear, eccentric shaft) and it'll be a one rotor. There will be two intake and two exhaust ports, one of each on each side because on the intake rather than sucking in the air it will be forced in and on the compression stage it'll be blown out the 1st exhaust port. and then the same for the combustion and exhaust phases.



A problem that I have right now is that i don't have any apex seals. I'm probably gonna try it without them first. I hope that if i just give it a little push it'll get it started if not it's no biggy as it's like a 5 minute job to take it all apart. If any of you guys have any old seals from a rebuild rather than throwing them out you could donate them to science (ME silly!).



Man it's 3:00 AM and i'm still wide awake! WTF!

 

ask some rebuilders, because theyll have seals that are within specs, but tossed out because people will want new seals for a rebuild.

oh, and whatre you using for your steam source?

hook up a pot with a custom made air tight lid going to your intake port and put it on a camp stove

 

Can you explain how this works??? Does the steam canister build a lot of pressure then its released into the engine just like forced induction but much stronger so that it turns the engine??? Is there ignition and fuel or what???

That's pretty much it . . . ignition and fuel is outside the engine, hence the name external combustion engine. The burning fuel is used to heat the water in a pressure vessel, then when the pressure is released into the intake ports the rotor turns.



Think about it like a two-cycle engine, except that the pressure needed to make it work no longer comes from burning fuel inside the chamber, but rather from an external pressure vessel.

The biggest problem with this project is going to be lubrication of the side seals and tip seals I think. Nothing unsolvable.
