Hi all

My first post

I am looking into the practicalities of running a 6 port RX8 engine and gearbox in a Caterham 7. The gearbox is basic hacksaw engineering to get it to fit, but i will need to run a standalone ecu for the engine. At a minimum i want to keep the lower intake, but would like to use the upper as well if space permits. I therefore need to control the intake shutter valves, but have no clue as to how they are driven. Are they on off switches, just open or closed ? or do they need PWM control. Also how is the oil pump driven? ( am i right in thinking it is ecu controled and not mechanical?).

If i can keep the upper manifold as well then i would just need to make an adaptor for a manual throttle body to replace the fly by wire original.

your best bet is a motec. it probley the only ECU that can handle it all. almost everything on the motor is controlled by stepper motors.

i myself am planning on building a locost 7. and am also was planning on using the renesis. but i was going to only use the renesis core and fabricate everything else. actually came out easier and cheaper. but i might be swapping to the s2000 motor. equal if not better power and much quieter. given the short side exit exhaust on the lotus.
