Stationary Gear/rotor Bearing ?'s
#1
So I'm preparing to rebuild the engine in my 90 TII with all new seals and rotor housings, when I pull the front housing thrust plate off to clean the torrington bearing underneath. After I cleaned it and checked it, I turned the housing over and the stationary gear popped out and landed on the ground. After a minute of cussing and self-hatred, I checked the gear and it looks like there's an EXTREMELY slight chip to the front of one of the teeth. Now, I'm wondering if this gear is even usable now, as I know the tolerances in an engine spinning at 7K are pretty close, but the damage seems extremely minimal. My question is, should I even consider using this gear now? I know I can probably find another gear for pretty cheap, but I've already spent a ton of money on this build, and I'd rather not spend more.
Also, I checked the bearing in the rear rotor (the front rotor was destroyed, and is being replaced with a new one), and there's a slight bit of brass exposed, about 10% of the surface. Now, is this bearing still reusable, or should I bite the bullet and buy a new one?
Thanks,
Zach

Brass = destroyed bearing. DO NOT RE-USE THIS BEARING. Look on the bearing and see if you can find the color marking for it(this will determine the size of the bearing.
Bite the bullet and get a new bearing for the rear. I think they only cost $25

depending on what you mean by "brass showing" that's perfectly normal. It's where he bearing has worn; RB says properly worn bearings are better than used ones.
If you get new bearings anyway, get FD bearings. They have a deeper oil groove than the FC's and are compariable to the MFR bearings... for 1/5th the cost.

Dude
Trust me you don't want to use a used bearing showing copper. Especially if 10% of the bearing surface is showing copper (it is copper by the way). Personally when I do a rebuild I always replace all the bearings, copper or no copper. Like you said your into it for some good dough already might as well buy yourself the added security of a new set of bearings. You sleep better when it together.
