rotor gear removal
#2
ive got a problem with a rotor one of the tooth are chipt and i want to replace the centre gear any 1 replace a centre gear on hear or removed 1 befor any help plezz.
It is possible to remove the gear.
Racing Beat will do it on a new rotor in order to install a giant snap ring into groove they machine into the gear and the bottom of the hole.
In the stock rotor at high revs and high heat, the stock gear will walk out of the hole and drag on the irons. Whenever you have a rotor out of the engine, put it between aluminum plates and put it in a press and give it a good push.
Normally a damaged gear makes the rotor unservicable. Could be used for setups with a corner back cut so you can see the back side of the corner seal hole.
If the tooth was damaged outside the engine, it might be possible to shine up the edges of the damage and use it that way. If a big part of a tooth is gone, make a lamp out of it, or drop it in a dumpster.
The gear is held in by the spring load from two dozen roll pins. They are hell to get out. On real expensive pieces a machist can "Wire EDM" them out for about 3 times the cost of a rotor.
