Opinions On Rotor/housing Damage

Hey all,
I'm going to do a 'budget' rebuild, (read: doesn't have to last long at all...) just until I get a new engine.
I'm wanting to reuse nearly everything from my old engine, like the rotors/housings and side plates.
Only thing is that one of the rotors for a little bit damaged when one of the apex seals let go..
It's a nick about 1mm deep leading up to the apex seal groove for about 2mm long.
The actual apex seal groove is still dead straight as it should be, just there now a little groove heading up to it.
The housings, one of them has some small(?) 1mm deep grooves going for about 3cm starting after the oil injection bung hole (heh heh heh) and going towards the trailing plug hole..
Would these cause a _significant_ drop in compression? I know this is faaar from ideal for a rebuild but i'm wanting to try out some different porting and what not, and just basically have my first go at rebuilding a rotor.
I'm going to buy some apex seals from rotary aviation and use those, all the other hard seals are within spec.
Before I tore it down it still had enough compression to give 5 even pulses and then only one far less even pulse
So that tells me that the housings should give enough compression to run ok?

first of theres no such thing as a "budget" rebuild. but when i did my "budget" build, one of the iron plates had 2 knicks. didnt seem to pose too big of a problem.... i dunno what effects it would have on the rotor housing. but it should be ok, maybe not recommendable, but ok.

The groove you described in the rotor housing will not let the engine make good compression no matter what the condition of the rest of it is. treceb is right about no such thing as a budget rebuild. You'd probably be better off buying a used(but running) engine as a temporary fix.

Or just get a second hand rotor housing? Gotta be some around cheap? (I've got a useable one here but I'm "down under"!)
You could still use the damaged parts- just don't expect it to start as well or perform at its best. Is it worth it for the price of another housing? The rotor itself can be re-used as long as the apex groove hasn't been pinched at all. Check it very carefully. They can be "adjusted" carefully is needed. Good luck!

I'm "Down under" aswell andynogo
but i'm also "Up north" reeeaaaal north, Darwin in fact, hehe.
I might call around a few places today and try to find a used housing up here.. Although I doubt there will be any up here at all...
Where do you buy your seals/springs/gaskets and water seals and whatnot andynogo?
I'm pretty sure i'll go with the rotaryaviation apex seals, but I still need some outer water seals and some corner seal springs.......

Well, I have a somewhat similar issue here.
Let me explain. One of me irons, the rear one as a small scratch, not even 1mm deep, just enough that it can catch a nail and is about 2.5cm long. I'll try to get a picture a.s.a.p. I wonder if I could just buff it a bit with emery paper, as long as I'm still in tolerances, should it be a big problem ?
