Sorry to but in,but overlap is the amount of time where the intake & exhaust ports are opened at the same time.that is why the renisis engine is more efficient.since they moved the exhaust ports to the side plates, there is no overlap, the unburned mixture just gets pushed into the next intake stroke.you all probably know this already.just wanted to explain just in case.

Quick update, engine is in the car. I repeat, engine is in the car. Should be up and running tonight and ready to hit the road by Tuesday. Pics of my custom 13B RE to FD mounts here:

As for video, I only have a Hi-8 cam corder....I can record it using that and send you a tape. Not sure that would help if you don't have a hi-8. I have no way to get the images onto my desktop computer.

1K break in proceedure and then I'll hit the dyno to see how well I did porting this thing!

Ok, sounds good! I'll ship a tape up to you. PM me with your address. I'm off on Tuesday and will pick the car up then and do a bit of video taping.

As far as break-in, I've heard Mazda had problems with bearings which required extended break-in periods and I do not want to take any chances :-) I'll be able to rack up 1K city driving in about two weeks, probably less however. I'll just use it as my work car for a bit.

She's up and running. Drove her home today! No video (camera battery was dead!) but I'll grab some tomorrow if the weather cooporates. As I stated in my earlier posts, I kept the primaries small, cleaning them up a bit at most. The actual size was bigger than an FD port to begin with. I did more work in the primary runners than the combustion port shape. She idles great. When we first started her, it sounded like a peri port! Nasty! Whup Whup Whup. My wife was there with me and it actually scared her

It settled down and idles at about 1K rpm quite nicely, even with the a/c. Seems to be guzzling gas though. Need to work on that. Anyway, I think I made a smart decision to stick with the small primaries and large secondaries. Thanks to Judge Ito, Vosko, Chris, FD3boost, etc...took too long but it was fun! I'll post more results as the engine breaks in and I'm able to boost.

To Crazy Rotor Rican, read, read, read. Get a shop manual and the Atkins video. Go through all of the posts here too and do a search for various engine building topics. Where are you located? If you can, talk to a shop that builds them. Just let them know you want to build it yourself and I'm sure they'll provide some assistance assuming you buy parts from them.
Congrats Michel, enjoy the new engine.

And get me some video when you have a chance.

I have a question on porting. Say you want some low-end torque still and high end too, can you port the primaries just a little and go larger on the secondaries? will the size difference of the ports mess any of the timing up or anything? TIA

Here is my latest attempt at porting. I have not completed the finish sanding. Like the nice smooth housing surface?
