I'm going to run the 1/4 tomorrow...any tips?
#1
Ok, I'm finally going to run the 1/4 mile Friday. It'll be my first time running the rx-7 and I was wondering if anyone can give me some tips like... What rpm should I launch at? When should I shift? etc... I'm not looking for any miracle times here. Just would like to get an idea of what this car will run and hopefully some good reaction times...
I had been practicing launching at 5000 rpms but that's too high as my boost comes on about 2600 rpms.
Thanks
mike

the track should be alot stickier than your average street i would try launching at 5000rpm and go up from there. i like to shift at very high rpm. i used to launch at 7000rpm and shift at 7500-8000rpm in my TII. that netted my fastest ET's and Trap's 13.7 @100 and 13.8 @101.5 with a shittier 60 FT....
try to optimize your shifting. i know its hard but it makes a BIG difference in your trap speed and time.... its gonna take a while but you should run low 14's if not high 13's . good luck
also try lowering tire pressure and warming up the tires that helps a little

From: Pimp'n ain't E-Z! But driving ur FD makes it easier!
Do yourself a favor when you at the track too...go ahead and do a "practice" run where you dont really floor it...but just lineup watch the lights...dont try too hard your first time...its best to get fimiliar with the track...then try harder each run...always seems to help, especially since everytrack feels different(at least to me it does)....also, I WANNA SEE 13S!!

try to relax and have fun even though your heart will probably be pounding through your chest.... its not as easy as it looks when you get up to the line and run. Feel your wheel spin and compensate, know when your engine is just past peak power and shift, keep practicing..
good luck man!

biggest tip is dont suck like me
After I originally posted, my friend, with a 13.8sec Z28, and I headed out to a barren four lane piece of road and practice raced. From a roll (30 mph) he started leaving me pretty quick. BUT from a dead stop I was able to stay a little bit ahead of him until the top of third (85-90mph?) and then he started to walk me.
The track is that STICKY huh? Well I've got some really awesome Pilot SX's UHP that are 225/45/zr17 on the rears. The only problem is the tread is questionable. Hopefully they have enough.
Seriously, thanks for all the tips. I'll do my best seeing as I'll probly be the only seven there : ( I'll post my times probly SAT.
