Getting Started in Road Racing
#1
We have 2 tracks here in the Pacific North West.
Located in Portland, OR, and Auburn (Seattle) WA.
Are there track days and schools available?
What clubs (that are friendly to Rx7's) hold events where I can learn driving skills?
What saftey equipment is required to partisapate?

join the scca first and formost. you can get info and discounts on everything just for being a member, also look into the audi club and porshe club of america as they have track days all over the place with really good instructors. as for schools try skip barber.
i got into road racing as a crew memeber here in wisconsin via the mid west councel and now a member of the scca , have my crew licens. i myself am building a car for myself over winter for mwc and scca reginal stuff. you also can check to see how big nasa is around you.

scca welcomes rotas with open arms and there is a really large mazda showing at any and all road races.

I lived in the Nortwest for 7 years and raced an RX7.
You will find great competition and friendly people in several different clubs.
I raced in both International Conference of Sports Car Clubs (ICSCC) and SCCA events. If you get a license for one the other will accept it.
Since someone else mentions SCCA I'll give you the other info
ICSCC is a group of clubs in the Northwest. They have races at PIR, SIR, Mission BC, Spokane, and Thunderhill (or at least the used to).
The Seattle area club is http://www.irdc-racing.com/
The Portland Area clubs are:
http://www.cascadesportscarclub.org/
http://www.teamcontinental.com/
All these clubs have track days and racing schools toward getting your license.
You would need to join a local club then ICSCC to go racing with them.
They seem to have a little more track time than SCCA events but both are great organizations.
