Battle Magazine Cup
#1
Well the weekend Myself, Jim, Mike and Chuck(Society) and others like Robbie and Shinji from Hey Man all competed in the Battle Magazine drift competition at Ebisu Circuit.
Society all went up as a team on Saturday and did some practice at the track for Nighter Drift. Mikes Sylvia developed large cracks in the Manifold which prevented boost from coming on and basically the car ran like doo doo. He did not compete in the competion the next day due to he cars failure. Jim also developed wiring problems due to the ingenious idea of putting the wiring harness OUTSIDE in the fender well. Nissan also does this!!! So Jim and Chuck spent a large part of the night splicing wires and rerouting them inside where they belong. I drove about 45 min total that night working some small bugs out of my car as well but I was in the groove and my driving was good and I felt confident about the next day.
The next morning up at 6am got ready and got inline to enter the track again. Driving started with a open practice and I felt good about my performance and Jim was looking pretty good to. This was the first itme for him to drift his Soarer. I made one tire change for testing purposes using Azenis ST115's all around. Lots fo Grip!! the acceleration points had to be spot on as well as the line using these tires but the total speed was increased alot. During this practice session the left front axle/hub assembly broke!! The shaft just snapped into and the inner bearing fell out basically putting me out of comission for a while. After a long period of searching for FC3S hub assemblies I finally found the part I needed and we put the car back together. It was too late for me though as I had missed my round for judging.
I did run again in a special round for people in my situation but I was not confident enough to push the car and performance suffered and I guess it wasn't good enough to convince the judges to change their decision about who went on to the next round. Luckily I got to drive my car home (3 hour drive) and it brought me to work this morning.
Jim was succesful and entered the second round of competition and made a valiant attempt but did not progress to the next round. So with lots of setbacks We all did extremley well and had a hell of a good time. Need to say thanks to Sleeper7 (chuck) who went along with us driving the Van with all our stuff and worked on everyone of our cars more than one time. Without him it would have been alot harder if not impossible for us to have any success.
We had a good time and performed well at an Event that was attended by Nobuteru Taniguchi as a special guest assisting in judging and Kazuhiro Tanaka also assisiting in the festivites... There were almost 200 entries in this event with some serious skill present. Just thought I would pass on to you my experiences.
