With a straight-piped FD, running a little more rich than normal, is it necessary to buy one of those rear bumper guards or is that just some marketing ****?
Also, I'm very handy with a welder and torch. Can i basically just cut the cat out of any exhaust, and replace it with tubing of the same diameter and width?

With the cat on the fd, this is not really possible/a good idea.
Just spend the 100 bucks and buy a midpipe..
the bumper guards really are marketing. Tune your FD correctly and you shouldnt have the melting assoiated with flameyfd's
