my auto meter gauge is off ... no FCD on a S5 and it shows 11psi yet no boost cut... i'm tapping my vacuum source from the same line as the boost pressure sensor.

this is the shweet black face gauge...

so.. i tried to save a buck.. and I got an inaccurate gauge.. not saying they all are.. but I think i'll spend more when I replace it.
yeah my autometer boost gauge was off by 4psi, it said 12psi and actually i was running 15-16psi. so with a stock intercooler and radiator i blew my motor up.

that's why i am getting a defi boost gauge.

and the pro's get super accurate gauges directly from the factory. they are all tested before they leave.
Who is to say that DEFI gauge is right though?

Maybe you had a spike in your boost and thats what blew up the motor

FastRotories- Did you friend by chance test any other gauges? How did he happen to come across 5 autometer boost gauges to test anyhow?
the guy that works for PMEL for the AF, his brother is the district manager for Autozone. So we grabbed every boost gauge that we could get our hands on. I think the highest we tested was their phantom gauges......ON a side note, their water temp gauges were really close. 1-3 degrees of error. Very little if you ask me.

You guys also need to think about something else. The line that goes into the back of the gauge needs to be checked!!! When I first hooked mine up I didnt mount it, I drove around holding it to my ear to make sure it wasnt leaking. Guess what....it WAS leaking!!!! Its not the gauges fault, I just didnt have it tight enough (eventhough it was pretty damn tight). I put some teflon (sp?) tape around the fittings and tightened it just a little more and guess what.....no leaks.

So to all you guys saying yours wasnt accurate.....did you do that??? Maybe the gauge wasnt at fault but that the installatin was. A boost gauge isnt a huge technology, its fairly simple and if installed correct should be within the specs that the sell them at....which is accuracy within one psi.

Also, when your reading the vacume I believe it can vary depending on the length of the line. You haltech line is probably very short going from the uim to the firewall while the boost gauge line is much longer gong all the way to the gauge in the car.
