My Hyundai Is Le Broke
#1
Tranny (auto) wouldn't shift out of a gear, they say speed sensor is broken. They replace that. We get the car back, now it shifts gears like crazy. Shifts are very abrubt, enough to shudder the entire car or sometimes chirp tires. And if you're at a certain speed and floor it or accelerate rapidly, instead of shifting down and going, it'll rev up and wildly shift between several gears in a matter of seconds, it's nuts.
And because it's not putting a code out, they pretty much have no idea what's wrong. "We think the fluid is burnt (even though it hasn't reached the next suggested fluid change mileage), so we're going to charge you $129 to change the fluid, then if that doesn't work, we'll install a new tranny (under warranty)." So I'm getting the car back, changing the fluid myself ("we recommend using our machine to get a complete flush"), then returning it so they can replace the tranny. I told them I can't afford $129 for a tranny flush (true).
So what do you guys think? Anyone ever heard of a problem like this?

I am glad to say I have had next to no experience with automatic transmissions. Sorry to hear about the problem.

I'm tempted to tell them to shove their $129 bill up their asses and change the fluid anyway, since they must've done something to **** it up. But I'm a nice guy.
We've always had problems with this service department. We took the car in once to have routine stuff done and get the crank angle sensor replaced (under warranty), and they killed the battery and messed up some wiring somewhere, which caused the door locks to lock on and off randomly. I would start the car, then shut the door, and then it would lock. We had to keep bringing the car back until they found out the problem (involved the stereo speakers and door locks, I don't know).

"I'm taking my car back, and I'm going to change the ATF myself."
service person: "Changing the fluid is a joke, you really only get out 3 or 4 quarts. It really needs to be flushed." need I remind you, $129.
"Well I can't afford that, so I'll bring it back later."
Called a transmission shop, they'll flush it for $59.99, and check it out for free. They promise not to be around bush about anything. I've used these guys before, I feel comfortable with them checking it out for a second opinion.

Let the car run for 10-25 min. with the car running check the level of the dipstick. Also the fluid should be red. not black, brown, or yellowwish red. If it is discolored, that may be the problem. If the fluid is full and a nice red color, then they are full of **** about needing the flush
