PLEASE POST ANY INFORMATION YOU HAVE ABOUT THE NEW RX-7 AND YOUR OPINIONS
WE WANT THE RX-7 BACK! We want the New Rx-7 to have the 3-rotor engine like the Cosmo in Japan. The new 16x patent to go as a 3-rotor version should be the new beast!
The Rx-7 created a new generation of Sports Cars and we want it back, if necessary under a new MAKE.

you call it a 26x in one post and a 16x in another, which is it? i'm assuming that the numeric designation coincides with the displacement as usual? a 1.6 is a good bit smaller than the old 2.0 three rotor so if they did that then they'd have to retool everything, whereas all of the 13b parts are, for the most part, interchangeable. it takes a loooooooooooooooooooooot of money to retool and start something new up so unfortunately i don't see that happening :/ now if they remade an r26b for production cars...........giggity

The new engine they will be using is the 16X and it is a 1.6 liter 2 rotor engine. Mazda is currently testing the engine and trying to squeeze fuel efficiency out of it. It is rumored the engine can run up to 350hp reliably with out failure, but that the production engine will probably only have 250-280 hp.

thanks dragon, didn't hear about that at all lol. should be pretty sweet, can't wait to see the first turbo'd one i'm assuming they're making the rotors shorter to drop displacement? having less mass to the rotors should put less stress on the apex seals and make it easier to balance out to stupid high rpm's lol

so even if the 16x comes out, a 3 rotor derivative from this new bigger motor would then probably be a 24X or something like that but no one has info on that. I would definitely like to see if they would be able to make it a viable option in today's rough automotive market. 16X would be great, and there were pics and vids of it a while back when they announced it. Lets all cross our fingers!!

It would be sweet to see something like the FCs/Ds coming back in the world with a 3 rotor setup, though unfortunately it would have to be called RX-9, as going back in a generation is odd; i.e., Rotary eXperiment 7, 8.. 9 would be the logical choice, and an RX9 would be pure sex if it looked more like the FB-D; those were some gorgeous years for the RX. EDIT: though the RX series was almost always synonymous with sexy.

I wish for a return to simplicity. The best selling 7 was the fb for good reason. It looked good, performed well and was cheap. They won't build one like that again because it would cut into miata sales. Throw a 16x into a more aggressive looking miata with no vert and I'd be all over it lol
