Dave, let me know how you get this worked out. I'm in the exact same situation as you, as far as the DMV not giving me a secong tag. MD really sucks with this stuff.

Dave,

See if you can find a wasted stock cat (melted core...) and just take an air hammer to the insides and knock the center out of it. The inspector just looks to see if the "external" part is there. They won't look into the cat to see that it is gutted. We did this years ago on my friends Firechicken back in my mullet days . Cops would pull us over and look and they couldn't say anything since it all looked stock but flowed like a mother

Anyhow, good luck.

Thats a thought. LOL

The guy that inspected it is a real ball breaker though. He claimied that he has worked on some older rx7's.

So he is trying to prove to me that he knows what he is talking about. Which sucks because now he is being a real PITA.

If i cant get a hook up. Im just going to have to put that crap on and drive the car over there.

Then yank it all back off.

Hey, that's cheaper than an M2 downpipe--why doesn't everybody do that? Anybody wanna help me clean out the pre-cat on my new FD after I get it inspected?

the downpipe will be better than a gutted cat, if you are strapped for cash you can do that but you'll end up with a real down pipe later.

Don't worry about the pre cat for inspection. You only need 1 and they don't know there should be another one
