General, Non-urgent Help Request

Anyone near Frederick, MD who'd take a clueless n00b for a tour under the hood of his new car? I've read all I can find on the '93 RX-7 I'm getting tomorrow, although I couldn't find a repair and maintenance manual for it. But even if I had, my previous hands-on car experience is about nil.
I've never heard of a professional mechanic who liked people looking over their shoulder, and the guys at the craft shop don't have the slightest idea about RX-7s anyway. So my only hope for learning my car is to find a local FD owner who's both proficient and patient, and willing to show me the ropes from the ground up.

Nice. Thanks for the links. I have been reading as much as I can find on the 'net. Sport compact cars' 9 part series on their RX-7 project gave me a basic idea about reliability and performance modifications. Rotaryengineillustrated.com and howstuffworks.com gave me the theory behind the Wankel engine and turbos in general, respectively. And the third gen board on this and a few other forums have been giving me a sample of some of the problems people run into.
That iluvmyrx7 site's invaluable, that's the first indication I've seen that the service manuals for the car even exist, nice to just have 'em all... I still wouldn't want to just open up the car and start doing things to it, with a manual sitting beside me, with no backup, given how oil changes are the previous extent of my journeys under a hood.
I'm not going to be doing any mods to the car, at least for quite a while, unless I feel it needs 'em for reliability. I'd like to know all about common problems--I've read through some, but I'm sure there's more--and have a visceral sense of the ability to handle some of 'em.
I'd like to know about all those little things that can be overlooked. I've gleaned different little things from different sources, but never seen anything approaching a comprehensive list, and it makes me worry that I'll miss something important, because people assume I'd just know. Things like letting the turbos warm up and cool down for a minute, and that running to lean must be avoided like Richard Simmons in drag, are the type of knowledge I just don't have.
So, the basic reasons I'd like the help of an actual person are those--A person would notice if I was doing something so stupid that the manual wouldn't even cover it, and can provide experienced help if I can't figure out how to translate something from the manual to the real-life motor.
