2003 Maryland BBQ
#1
Hey everyone,
I was doing some thinking yesterday about what to do for next years Maryland BBQ to make it a little different and add a driving activity to it. Here is my idea – Please make comments to let me know if it sounds like fun.
I was thinking of plotting a Road Rally that anyone could run through the back roads of Carroll County. There are several different types of rallies that we could do, but the one I like best is the “Plot Your Own Course” rally. This is how it would work:
You would receive a packet of info 10 min. before you start that has a page with 5-7 questions on it, a map with locations marked, and a sheet where you record your odometer reading and verified by the person starting you. The goal is to go to all the locations marked on the map and answer easy questions about these sites (you have to answer the question to get credit – no cheating!). You may go in any order by any means marked on the map. When you return, your Odometer reading is taken again and recorded. The team that has the questions correct and the LOWEST total miles to all sites wins!
Cars will need to have one driver and one navigator to qualify as a team for safety and there is no time limit. Cars would be started at 1-min increments like a std rally. Planned length - 50 to 60 miles.
What I liked was that it requires only 1-2 people to “work” the rally (myself and someone else).
Another idea was a Poker Run – but this takes more manpower.
What do you think? I’ve done all kinds of rallies with other car clubs and it can be a lot of fun driving through the country.
BTW - here is a link to a rally this Sunday. It is a bit more complicated, but sounds fun. I'll be there with the wife as my navagator
