Hola! New & in need of some advice & suggestions
#1
Hi, I'm from Long Beach, California. Lets see I currently own two 7's, one 1986 n/a non turbo first base model and a 1987 Turbo. Back in about june 2006 I had a 1986 toyota tercel hatch back in soso running condition and a 1996 geo metro. I had been looking for something with a bit more power so i came across some guy online selling his 1987 rx7 turbo who also was willing to trade. So I took a chance and ended up trading my 1986 toyota tercel for the 1987 turbo rx7. The only catch was that the car had just been kept sitting in the back yard for about 7 years so tha car was not running. Well I guess it was fair trade I tried selling the tercel and was realy getting nothing for it. Any ways the car it self was I think worth much more than my tercel and great project for me. The interior is in exceptional condition no cracks or missing parts on the dash the seats and carpet very clean asside from all the dust from sitting for years and the body some dings here and there nothing major. So I had it towed to my house. It sat for a couple of more months while I saved up some money and came across some more good deals. Well after about 8months I found a guy who sold me clean working long block, complete tranny, gas tank and lambo door kit for $900 all and now will have all put in at lucky7 down in el monte labor will about $900....I' ve been told that since it has been sitting for long time that it probaly has accumulated some rust and will prob run into some problems were not quite sure. So far i was just told the turbo was damaged on the long block other than that it seems fine. I've been told I can have it fixed but I wonder if I should just get anoter one new or used not quites sure what would be best so I'm welcoming any suggestions for this and If any one out there knows about any problems I might run into I'd realy appreciate the info thanks!

Wow. The first thing that pops into my head is that if you're going to be paying a shop to resurrect a car that's been sitting that long, you'd better: A) have the highest degree of trust in the shop, and B) have a lot of money to throw at this car.
Having said that, if you've got a good shop, and have the money, there's no reason why this car can't be something very enjoyable for you. Good luck.
As far as the turbo goes, as long as the exhaust housing is in good shape with no cracks, I would have it rebuilt rather than go looking for a used one. If you're looking for performance beyond stock, you could consider an upgrade. Just have your checkbook ready.

Yeah I trust the shop. They specialize in 7's. I've seen alot of their work and its pretty nice. Actually the original person who was supposed to work on my car was this guy named Dave Segalla aka (guitar junkie).I had been meeting with him a couple of times about it but, I'm sad to say that unfortunately he passed away about 4 days before I was goin to take my car to him. I know he was very well known in the rx7 community and an expert in 7's. After much thinking I have decided to go with his partner Fris at lucky7.
Well as for the money goes I'm not a rich person but I have been blessed enough to have some money to spend on the car. For now I just want to get it up and running and maybe in about couple of months to a year fix it up more and upgrade a couple more things on it. About how much much do you think it might cost me?
As for the turbo, well since I was definitley looking to upgrade it eventually what would you recomend to fix it and upgrade later or should I just upgrade now?
Thanks!
