1991 Rx7 Convertible - Need Help
#1
OK, so I bought a 1991 Convertible that "needed work"...Of course, I really didn't know how much work, but bought it anyway. Engine/Drivetrain seemed OK. It needs everything inside: carpet, seats, top, etc. All of that I can handle.
My main issues right now is that it dies/bogs every time I push the throttle past 1/2 way. Just falls on her face. I've read around on the forums and it seems that the issue could be anything from fuel pump, injectors, TPS, vacuum hoses, fuel filter...and the list goes on. Also, she smokes like a late freight when started up cold. Lasts for 5-10min. I'm afraid that is bad seals and I'm looking at a rebuild?
I have replaced the fuel lines, fuel filter, cleaned the fuel tank...New plugs/wires as well.
Do I need to be looking for a new motor? How difficult are these 2nd Generation engines to pull/swap?
I have 'basic' mechanical skills...Rate myself a 5 or 6 out of 10.
If I can get these issues addressed, I don't mind fixing it up with the interior, carpet, top...
This is my 2nd Rx7 ( I had a little 1983 way back in high school). I love the rotary engine, the way it likes to spin up, but I'm just concerned about dropping too much cash in this one. Looks like I can buy a decent 2nd Gen Convertible for about $6k and that is about where I think I'm going to end up anyway....
Thoughts?

Sounds like it's leaning out. You should verify that the secondary injectors are coming on over 3800 RPM and under load. Also, there is a well-documented issue with a bad engine ground causing this sort of problem.
