Rotary on Rotary crime.. Sucks to drive a Rx8
#1
Driving to work tonight, talking on my cell fone in the right lane, and this Rx8 gets on my bumper flashing lights and acting silly. Im in the middle of a call with my woman on the other line, and so I talk away until she is done. Once I hang up I get over in the left lane (which was clear the entire time.). Im thinking maybe I know the guy in the Rx8 because of the silly behavior. He pulls up to me and is like 'I want to see what I can do against your turbo II' Im like, Ok man go for it. So I hear him downshift, and I go to 3rd (at about 60 mph). get the RPms up and he guns it. Im holding my own and at 7000 I shift to 4th, and start to pull. he backs off and hits it again and Im just pacing him to 110-120. I gained about 2 cars on him and he couldnt recapture the space. We started to hit a little traffic, so we backed it down to about 65. It was cool, because he rolled up beside me again and gave me the thumbs up. Then he shouted, 'man I better get a turbo' Im like ya the Greddy kit is badass.. Felt good to beat up on the Rx8, even though I think it may have been a different story on the track. Once again Im always surprised by this car, doesnt feel particularly fast but u look at the speedo and its like ..

i have an Rx8, the rx8 arnt boats.. fully loaded Gt version onmly weighs a little over 3000 pounds... 3028 or something, i have 05 Rx8, they are Coming out with a new flash, and a lot of people with very few bolt on mods (exhaust, pullies intake) are now putting over 200Rwhp on a Mustang dyno.. just saw one that put 203rwhp on a mustang dyno.... pretty good for a 1.3L NA...if you want a fair race.. turbo vs turbo... go find turboed Rx8.... sorry im a huge fan of the rx7s...but apples to oranges... NA vs Turbo... Even though the guy did want to race you...

Going to have to disagree with the 8's being boats myself. No, they're not an FD...but they're not bad either.
*shrug* guess I've just had enough seat time in both to appreciate the different cars for what they are.

You still want to run a turbo 8 dcrasta, lol? You know I'm in the DC area...
Also, the 8 is a "bigger" car but I would never say a boat... mustangs and camaros are boats... the 8 isnt bad especially gutted I'll have mine on a scale before too long...

why is it that every and any forum, where an RX-7 owner resides, turns into a hate and flame fest on the RX-8. If the RX-7 owners always bad mouth the 8, and the 8 does any worse on sales, and the word gets spread by 7 owners anymore that the 8 sucks, you can forget about EVER seeing another new 7 released by Mazda. Why so much hate on the fellow rotor head?
The 7 and the 8 are different cars, with different users and purposes. I needed a car that I could put 2 sets of golf clubs, a duffel bag AND a passenger in. The last FD I drove, there was no way to do all of that. But I wanted something more than your typical Accord, Camry or some other sedan. So if I wanted a rotary, and I did, the 8 was my option. At least it's not a Z.
And they are far from boats, mine see regular track duty, and gets compliments from guys in 400 whp Z06's on how well it handles. Boats don't handle well enough to keep up with ZO6's. Sorry. That analogy doesn't float with me.
You don't see the 911 GT3 owners telling the Cayman owners or Boxster Owners that their cars suck, and that they got taken for their money by Porsche. They have a community, a brotherhood of the Boxster engine and the Porsche marque. Rotary owners could learn from them.
Just my two cents.
