stereo/amp tech. geeks i need ur help

alright so i have 2 amps. one powers my mids and highs. the other powers my sub. there both crappy american legacy's. what i want is one of those bass switches where you can turn the bass up or down with a rheostat type switch (min. to max. round switch). i have one that was used for a computers electric fan. it will work. my question is this... since my crappy amps dont have a "port" or anything to plug one of these up to or wire it up to, how else can i hook this up... i mean, is it possible to maybe hook the wire from the switch into the remote wire so it could control volts/input going into the amp thus lowering its output going to the sub? would that work? if not is there any possible way?

Oh boy.... it sounds like you need a Parametric Equalizer but it would cost moer than the amps.
The only suggestion I have is you need to regulate the amp input. Not the remote or output. You want a dial that goes in between the deck and the amp with RCA ins and outs. I would call radio shack. I googled it, I could find them for home use but not auto, so the switches looked like those home light switch dials.
