What do you go for? features, performance, style/looks, price, etc.

I think I go for a bit of everything, Alpine and Clarion are two of the best and have been for many years.. Kenwood has that D-Mask stuff which is cool but they don't have some of the quality features that the others have.. Recently I have been looking at the Alpine 7998 cause it has a nice look, onboard EQ and it has no on-board amp..it also plays MP3's so that is a definate plus. Too bad budget also plays a big part in selection....

as far as I am concerned, I will never again buy a stereo that doesn't have mp3 support, it is the best improvement since, well, cds

Sony all the way, Ive had other decks, but Sony seems the best.

I look for features and Sony always seems to have exactly what I need.

Ive had one Sony deck for 10 years, thats enough to convince me.

Current one in my car ive had for 5 years. It has 3 sets of pre-outs, 1 is sub control with hi-pass built in, has CD/MD changer controls which means that even though its a older unit with no MP3, I can now connect Sony's new add on MP3 changer to it directly and use the controls built into the deck

I also have added Sonys RF version of the 10 disk MP3 changer to my factory radio in my Lexus so I can play MP3 in there now as well.

I have the Sony MP30 (plays mp3) and its the second best since the Alpine HU. Going back to Alpine next year (change my HU every year or so). Sony is good for price/features/quality but Alpine sound much better

From a reliability and sound quality standpoint, I think Alpine, Clarion, and Eclipse are very good. I never use the internal amps on any head unit so power to me doesn't matter. I look for ease of use too in the layout. Some of the units have so many damn buttons, bells and whistles all over the place, they are a pain to control when driving.
