I mean say I buy a rear from a car that rates it as a 3.3:1 rear, and the car stock runs 225-60-16's... and I put it into a car thats now going to run a 205-40-17. Does that still equate to a gearing of 3.3:1?

What tire size does a RX7 typically run?

The diff is the same ratio regardless - 3.3 turns of the input shaft to 1 turn of the outputs. You can't change that. You can however change the tyre's to bigger/smaller ones - if you do the overall gearing is changed and your accelleration and top speed will also change. Also bigger wheels will chang the camber meaning you will need to fix that too.

running smaller overal dimeter tires/wheels combo is a good cheap way of changing your final drive ratio. Is also a good way for race classes that limit u on final gearing or restrict u, but do not restrict your tire size.
