Personally I don't understand the huge craze for 4x4's - so you sit a little higher, but anything over 60mph is painful, mid-teen mileage, the ride is terrible at best, and the whole "extra girth = extra safety" idea is a farce. If you really need the space get an estate.

Both Land Rovers and Range Rovers are designed for offroad use (and in fairness they're the best at what they do, but if you're not going to need this ability, there are better options out there.

I borrowed my father in laws '03 Range Rover last year. I loved that thing. If you can afford one they are badass.

Do they have diesel landrovers?? I bet that could take care of many problems they have. A nice turbodiesel would be ULTRA fitting for a euroSUV.

95% of all Land Rovers here are Diesel, and they're perfectly reliable - especially for a late 50's design (with the exception of the relatively new v5) - Ford on the other hand were notorious for their diesels.

The problematic Landys were the EFI v8's loaded up with electronic goodies (not an English forté) and air-suspension (as mentioned). Incidentally the v8 engine was an even older aluminium Buick-sourced one (I know this because they're very popular choice for kit cars), now they use a new Jag v8.

Jag V8 = Ford V8

I used to bust a lot of those before they came out......
