I went charter fishing yesterday about 6km behind Rottnest Island (WESTERN AUSTRALIA). On a 9m cat.

It was good fun. I caught some skippy and pink snapper. We were in about 105m of water, wish means its a mission to reel in your line from the bottom. We were using squid for bait.

After we did the bottom fishing, we went chasing Sambo's (Samson fish). THey are fucken cool. They only chase lures, apparently we'd been going through them all day with the bait to catch the snapper on the bottom, but they don't go for the squid.

ANyway, with the sambo's, you drop your line out till it hits the bottom, then (we were using eggbeaters for the sambos), flick your bale arm over and and wind and jerk like crazy. After about 3 or 4 jerks, you get hit and the rod justs bends like 180 degrees and that ****** takes off. Takes about 20-30mins to get it in, cos they keep taking off and spooling more line.

ANyway, I've got pics!

This is me and my snapper.

SAMBO!

I'm just over 6" tall, this thing is about 110cm long. The legal size is no smaller than 60cm. LOL

I'm not sure the size of the line, it was braided line, cos the nylon just has too much stretch.

These are the rigs we were using to catch the snapper. Thats Corey in the background, he was the deckie.

I think we were using 30lbs line on the Alvey reels to catch teh snapper. We had 2 hooks and a big **** sinkers to get it to the bottom. A couple of teh guys got double headers (2 snapper at once) that wsa cool, made it a bitch to reel in! Most of the snapper were a bit small though, I caught the biggest one.

I also caught a small blue-eyed shark. Threw it back though.

THis is some of the other catches of snapper, skippy and a cod.
