Man.. I cant wait till you can Dowload food..

hhmmm, let me add my fuel to the fire...

So, I was wondering if it was illegal to tape songs off the radio. So I asked my coworker, who also works at a local radio station. She said that when cassette recorders came to the market, the recording industry freaked out. So they cut a deal that the recording industry would get a fraction of the cost of each recording device. I don't know if this is right, this is just what she told me.

Now, couldn't the same thing be done here? Like, it's illegal (screw "right" and "wrong," they're too subjective) to d'load and copy music, but the devices that make this possible are legal. So, could a fraction of the cost of those devices go toward pacifying the RIAA, thereby making d'loading the music legal? (assuming d'loading becomes controlled in some way)

and 75Repu, you and me both.

Here're my thoughts:

1/2 the people on this forum have illegal cars, where illegal is anything you do to a car that messes with the emissions set up.

It seems arbitrary that one wouldn't care about violating federal EPA laws, but would care about federal copyright laws.

How is modding a street car with a T88 ok because it's fun but d/l'ing music is bad because it's illegal? Just doesn't seem a consistent set of values.

this is why they are backing services that charge a fee to download music (apple's service charges 99 cents a song or something) so that they have a profit to get a share of.

simple kazaa p2p stuff, there's no charge, so no profit for the riaa to feed off of, thats the ONLY reason they're pursuing this so much.

I like apple's idea, at least you know you're getting good quality. But at 99 cents a song, it costs about as much as buying a CD off the shelf!

again, thats the idea.

you figure 15-20 songs per cd, thats $15-$20 to download a whole cd.

so the riaa gets the same amout as if you bought the cd itself.

Ahhhh the joys of trying to justify illegal behavior, never ceases to amaze me.

RD, read your sentence again. You said something about speaking english, but you can't even complete this sentence correctly.

It's that the "joys never CEASE", not, "the joys never ceaseS".

So here's your sentence as you should have written it:

Ahhhh, the joys of trying to justify illegal behavior never cease to amaze me.

Why would joys amaze him? I think it should be more like:

"Ahhhh, the joys of trying to justify illegal behavior, the excuses never cease to amaze me."

or something like that...I'm bored...

or maybe he incorrectly pluralized the word joy and made it joys.
