Scott, pay me to import a jspec car, and I'll register it, and you can buy it off me from Canada, and it would be legal no?

no, its easier but theres still some bs. you need a letter from the manufacturer stating the car is legal in the usa and canada or something like that

so how do we make rhd cars "federally legal" mike?

kevin.

if you need details, the govt has a big website about it, but basically it boils down to 2 options

1. the epa and dot want to certify the car, the dot wants us crash standards, us tires, and lights. the epa wants to smog the thing. with the FC/FD/S13/s14 type of car, bascially the crash stuff is the same so its doable, and the jdm cars will pass the tailpipe emissions testing too.

2. bribe em! costs the same, results are the same, its faster and easier too. this is what motorex did/does with the skylines. i friend of mine had one, they put 2 big cats into it, but it was on non usa tires...

Yea i need something higher up and I'm 99% sure since I am working for the fed they'd cut me some slack LOL, but who knows. I would need something like a jeep or pickup the is, errr well mailbox height. Plus it needs to be super reliable

It's so obvious I can't believe no one has mentioned it already. The vehicle you need is a Jeep Wrangler with a rotary engine swap. Duh!

Use autotrader.ca , enter 1989-1992 for the year of suv with the tagword diesel, you will get at least 500 matches for RHD suvs here in Canada, we are literally drowning in diesel SuVs with the 15 year input rule, coupled with the the ban on city owned light vehicle diesel use in Japan that made peoples diesel vehicles in Japan worthless overnight...

I think having a Canadian register it might be easier for you than doing a raw import into the US.

theres some paperwork that needs to be filled out, and theres some roundy roundy "you need x before y, but cant get x unless you have y" process. theres a govt website about it, we get calls at the dealership about this once in a while, although not in the last year. and judging by traffic, it seems like people are going to canada, but thats a different topic
