I wouldn't say it's hard to get working right. Probably have to define right... I mean honestly have you ever had windows performing to your expectations???

I can't say anything really about XP, I have a copy, but I have yet to install it on anything so i personally can't say anything positive or negative.. yet.

Linux has not gotten to the point where it will squash MS and it will be some time before it does. Software manufaturers are starting to develop for Linux and that's a good thing.

The newest inconvenience with MS is their anti-piracy tactics will drive some users away from buying XP, but not away from running the win shell. Of course that is only my guess.

The biggest dis-advantage with Linux is software installs and that is coming along. The biggest advantage is the open source environment and the amount of open source software available. For example Apache Web Server....

It all depends on what you are doing, there's no perfect OS for everyone, everyone's needs are different and I doubt there ever will be.

well i have XP...lets just say their anti-piracy crap dont work too well. i sure as hell not gonna pay for an OS. About XP, i havent had ANY problems with it so far, and i feel its been running a hell of alot more stable than 98 SE...

Phinsup. ive got an old computer laying around, and im planning on making it into a Linux Box. I leaning either towards Mandrake or Red hat. i might even try both, you can beat free.. . u got any suggestions or tips??

You will be much better off with Red Hat 7.2, I don't like Mandrake it is not all the way there yet. Red Hat has got there crap together.

Let me know if you need any help.
