potato cannon
#14
We used to make drive shaft cannons. Cut the end off a drive shaft, put a small hole in the other end and a pin at just the right spot to stop an object. Using welding gas we could shoot potatos, small juice cans of cement, etc a looong ways. They were fun, but I've stepped up to a real cannon now(which is a lot safer.) Its made by South Bend Replicas(they make them for all of the civil war reinactors), has a 1 inch bore and takes 440 grains of black powder(a little over an once.) It sound tike about half a stick of dynomite going off, great fun for the 4th of July.

Southbend Replicas has a web site from which you can buy their catalog. Its got all sorts of cannons up to full size civil war morters. Be warned though that they are not cheap, but are the best built cannons in the country with steel lines barrels.
