and iDen is just a digital cell line, like every other cell technology other than AMPS. Its basically the same as Sprint Vision-voice and data (both digital) just integrated on two separate networks.
About cell coverage-keep in mind the average cell tower costs only $300,000 plus anywhere from 6 months to 3 years trying to get the site zoned for use. If you have $300,000 and a half acre of land to donate, any cell company will gladly build you a tower, but you dont want it too close to your house-cell coverage "umbrellas", which means you dont get **** for signal RIGHT underneath it. |
about loggin in to get your text messages-that's "shortmail" only. Sprint had the great idea that you should have to do it. It was going to be the "future" of cell phones. You get a text, they send you a "notification" saying you have new shortmail, you log in, read your shortmail, send another one out, then wait for your notification of reply. ******* gay, yes, but Sprint has gotten their act together. SMS messaging, which is what everyone else has, is what sprint has moved to. If you still have shortmail, EVERY NEW PHONE SPRINT PUTS OUT IS SMS NOW, INSTEAD OF SHORTMAIL.
Yeah no ****, that Shortmail garbage was the biggest pain in the ass ever. My new phone though, the one I had for only a day had SMS and it was very cool. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
whoever was talking about if verizon bought AT&T you have to know that there would be no way for verizon to merge with ANY GSM company because they are CDMA. For verizon to convert to GSM it will be millions of dollars and a total cell tower change, which pretty much means its never going ot happen.
CDMA tech is garbage and its getting out dated by GSM. The only reason GSM isn't all that great right now (ie no reception with cingular , tmobile in rural places and upper parts of the country) is because its still in its infancy. Europe has been using GSM for over 10 years and their service is what EVERYONE uses as a telephone. No one has a landline in europe because of hte damn cost and "party sharing" ::rollseyes:: so yea, GSM will soon be the norm in the USA and anyone with Verizon or Nextel and Sprint will pretty much just be the same. which isn't a bad thing except for the Outrages price of Verizon, totally rediculous pricing on Verizons part. |
without direct connect nextel would suck. and there ******* camera phone is so expensive. every other company has them for uber cheap now.
hell, sprint is giving away a new camera from with new 1 or 2 year activations. |
nextel has the oldest phones for the most money in any market. outdated, garbage, exept for the fact of their huge Push to talk network. Remember when verizon tried to start push to talk, HAHA that failed in about 4 months. poor verizon.
|
you are right. that ******* i530 phone is still like 75 bucks and that phone is well over 2 years old. they are nice phones. i am not complaining about the service at all. i finally get service at my house and I use to have to go outside on the porch in the corner and I would get like a single bar and it would always jump in and out of signal.
******' nextel. so damn expensive but oh so damn convenient. |
depends on wehre you live really. Sucks for the guys that live in upstate NY and such because their basically locked into getting verizon or nothing. Ever wonder why verizon charges so much ? for the guys in a city, we're pretty much straight on picking any service. GSM just isn't that big yet to spread to the rural or more country areas. Once it is, cingular will pwn
|
yeah, cingular has had gsm for a while now. i remeber some rep at my work talking about it. saying that gsm will be the future of cellphones. i get service every where i go with nextel except for in the country country country. this is in nanjemoy maryland and if anyone has heard of it or been there, you should know what i mean.

I have a moto v400 that i've hacked. Its a cingular gsm phone but with it being hacked I can switch to any other gsm carrier's network if I need to. Since i'm piss scared of roaming charges I havent actually made a call off network, but the option to in an emergency exists. If any of you have a Moto V series phone, I definately recommend you look up a program called Motokit. It allows you to do kickass **** to your phone, like turn my camera phone into a video phone (playback only, no recording) and customization of the whole thing. Its a hobby of mine https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Oh and GSM is way older than CDMA, even here in the States
