Anyway as some u might already know that I have been layoff {always getting layoff}? Anyway since I been home {stay home mom know} I came up with an IDEA to open my own auto store. I am thinking selling customs parts for cars & trucks, I am thinking stay with rice family {Honda & accura & mitsubishi} and also sell stuff for the Rotary but not as big like the guy's above cause low volume in our Rotary World. Anyway I need your opinoin on how to start it up and how do I get to becaome dealer of a company products? The reason why I want to do it is becasue I am always thinking of cars like most of the Rotary nutz. Khris

Look at your competition first.

I've had the same idea, although it's nothing new, but my age (18) and financial standing limit my ability to go through with it. Now, a shop exists in my community; however, they do not cash in on the riceburners. I have no idea why they don't, because to me it seems like selling Altezza lights and neon underbody kits as well as nitrous would allow one to live quite nicely!

That's exactly what I had in mine cause, and also there is no competitors close to the location where I want to do it.

Well my simple answer would be to go for it!

A note of caution though, I mean, I have hardly any knowledge about operating a business. So, my opinion shouldn't be held with that high of value.

I know there are a lot of other people on here that know how to run a business and would be more than happy to share their opinions/advice with you. Good luck!

someone else said it in here before. that will be hard because people will scoure the world via the internet looking to save 10 bucks. you would have to be competitively priced and Sell your knowledge, support etc... would be hard but everthing fun and rewarding is hard. good luck

In MD you just go to the courthouse and get a dealers license. Its like $20, thats all you gotta do. Then you have to convince companies to cut you good deals on the parts, so you can mark them up but still be competitive with pricing.

A friend of mine does this for a living, he does pretty good for himself.

where are you thinking of opening it? i think it will work if you sell the majority of what is bought, obviously. but selling some rotary will be good also. its usually about location. but hey go for it. it will be fun.

your ganna need some kinda garage and people who know how to work on cars,,,atleast people who know how to mount balance wheels and do simple stuff like that. Your ganna need $$$$ to start something like this and lots of it. This is something you really have to sit down and think about, maybe even wright up a business plan. How big do u want this thing to be, how much dedication are you goign to have and how much help do you want? theres a lot of thing you have to think about and try and work out, operating a business is no simple task and opening one is that much harder.

Thats why I canned the idea of opening a speed shop. I modded the hell out of my RX-7 and bought EVERYTHING over the internet. Its too hard to compete with that.

Well I am not thinking of openning a repair because it will be too much overhead, and plus in the sorrounding town I know some people that work on Rotary and I don't want to cut into they busniess. For now I just want a simple store that can sell's customs lights cars headers, catback, and same for the trucks. My most important question what I should ask is do guys/gals prefered to shop on the net {like Ebay} to get something cheap or rather go the store and see and order it otr the store have it instock. Also I can work on cars {mainly on Rotary's} but I really rather not do it cause our community is very small compare to RICERS.
