Ok, so I made a pact with a friend of mine 4 years ago. Every new years since that date would be spent on a new island around the world. Since then we've been to arctic islands, tropical islands, and temperate islands. My friend is now finishing his masters program at George Washington University and doesnt have time ... *****. I wasnt going to be going anywhere since I was about to leave to sea over new years, but our season has been pushed back until monday. Which means I will not be working over new years.

Now, I need to come up with an island thats in a relativly close distance to the US (or even US islands)

so I'm not traveling for 16 hours. Im technically on stand-by with my job, so when I get called I need to be able to make it back to home within 10 hours.

Last year I was in the carribbean off the coast of belize, so I cant goto the carribbean again... I was thinking something more pacific side. Hawaii seems way over rated, I've heard good and bad from people. I've never had a desire to go there myself... seems too touristy.

Had I known in advance that I wasnt going to be working on new years then I would be spending it on the galapagos. But alas.... Im didnt.

So another rule, it cant be the french polynesia (tahiti area) ... they hate white people and its rather touristy and trashy.

So help me figure out an island thats close to the US and I can fly to tomorrow! GOGOGOGO!

Kuai is not really touristy, you must have some money to just fly by Monday!

it might not be the best place for 2 guys though, Maui would be a good time for 2 guys, but its much more mainstream, not anywhere as bad as Honolulu though

My friend isnt coming along this time, hes working on his masters stuff right now... so its just me.

Been checking avaliability for flights to anywhere in hawaii and its not looking too good. Flights are timed weird..

Orcas island? Out here in the san juans? lol... I was thinking about doing that actually if the weather wasnt so shitty. Just go out sea kayaking between all the san juans on new years eve and spending the night on one of the islands... lol But I think ill save that for the summer time.. haha
