i have wireless on my desktop right now.. love it.. even though it doesn't make too much sense for a desktop, my stuff is upstairs and everything else is down..
no cords, no mess, and nice quick speed online and downloading

You need to mess with pointing the antennas in different directions. There are also little foil things you can put on the antennas to extend the range.
If you can get ethernet that will always be better than wireless, especially if you have a crappy signal. Walls are a nightmare for wireless.
