Long trips in the fd
#1
It cracks me up when I hear people say that it's not good to go for a long drive in your rx-7 since that's basically all i do in mine... Drive 4 hours to the gf's, drive 4 hours home, etc. etc. Hell i've even driven my 7 across the country in 2 days yeah well i'm putting off the 4 hour drive home and thought i'd share my long drive experiences... haha

When I bought my FD I fly to Detriot and drove back to MN non-stop 730 miles in 9.5 hours. Had no problem.
When I pickup my car from KDR in PA that will be a 1200 mile non-stop trip. I'm worried as I have so many mods on the car and it's a new motor to boot.

Sounds similar to me, drove mine back from St Louis, MO, 9 hours non-stop. Haven't taken a trip longer than an hour in the car since then.
Ken, will Dave have broken in the motor for you when you pick it up? I imagine breaking in the motor by driving it 1200 miles at 70 mph would *not* be the right way to do it. Plus aren't you supposed to change the oil early on?

Good point, is a rotory like breaking in a fresh high performance small block? Where youre supposed to run it at different RPMS for a certain time? Or does it not matter? I think I would try to get my hands on a car trailer, but then again, what better way to see if the motor is reliable!

Well, I don't have an FD...I have an FB ('85)...But I do have to boast of her reliability as well...I have driven from Denver to Omaha and back about 3 or 4 times...It's an 8-9 hour trip one way. She does GREAT. I'm going back out to Omahole in May, and I plan on driving her out again with no worries or concerns on my mind.
