God forbid you can't "bang gears". That'll affect your mad kwik shifting, yo. If you're actually driving a car hard, as in around turns at high speeds, you'll want to have both hands on the wheel and you'll want to get your right hand off of the wheel, onto the shifter, and back onto the wheel as quickly as possible, which is why the shifter is closer. If you're out cruising with your high school friends and are working a pimp slouch, this will make it pretty tough to shift, so this obviously isn't the car for you. Just stick with your Durango and be happy.
also some things you need to know bout me:
a) dont drive honda
b) dont like honda
c) not a ricer
d) slouch cause im 6'6"...not to be a pimp
e) i'm a real car guy, if you'd like to see some of the projects i've done... by myself... just let me know, i doubt you've built a jeep I6 that was as fast, or as powerful, as i did when i was 16-17.
sorry but i really think this stereotyping of people who others dont agree with as instantly being ricers or wannabes is unfounded. i know what i can do, i know when "banging gears" is necessary. to me banging gears is power shifting aka not using the clutch. If im racing at e-town and i go to "bang a gear" and my hand falls off the shifter it just cost me 1/3 of my $20 or so...hell half the time at e-town you're lucky to get 2 runs in so i may waste half my money just cause the shifter is in the wrong position.
also when was the last time a mini-van lookin civic si was a rally car? i havent seen one, but im sure you must've since you know how to drive like a god. (ohh i got inflammatory, wooooo.)
if youd like to continue this bring it to pm's, i wont pollute the board with this petty argument.

There's only so many ways you can do 4 wheels and a passenger compartment, so some designs are bound to be copied / repeated. I'm just waiting for the '59 Caddy Ragtop to get remade. Fins Are Forever!!!

The GTO looks like a nice car. Little boring on the styling, but I think a rear wheel drive Monte Carlo with the Camaro drivetrain ain't a bad decision.
The next Mustang can't help but remind you of the 68 - 70 Mustangs, I kinda like that. The performance is coming back too, and you can't fault that.

the gto looks nice, sure, but does it stay true to it's old styling and heritage? other then the gobs of power, it doesnt.
it is a nice car, just not a gto.
it's sort of like the whole v8 in an rx7 thing, simply modified a bit lol.

The Honda Element is actually a really well laid out thing.
Its USEFULL. And for $21,000 fully loaded with all wheel
drive, 250watt stereo, power moonroof and all the other crap
you can think of, its a bargain. 110,000 mile scheduled tune up too
might I add. You have to sit in one and check the thing out in person.
I also hated on itat first before seeing on in person, but when you see it in person its nice. Very nice for the price too.
You people need to come to the reality that the car buying
public dictates what cars are sold and made.
My girlfriend wants one, and I am all for it.
I DID want her to get a Mazda 6, but they are $26000 fully loaded. **** THAT. If your sitting there with your calcualtor in hand thinking the difference in payments arent that much think again and join the real world.

Why would your hand ever be off of the shifter while you're drag racing? If you look back to your original comment, you'll see that you said you'd reach for the shifter and punch the dash instead, and now you're changing your story to your hand falling off of the shifter. Have you driven a car with a dash shifter, or are you just making assumptions? Of course, you'd never make any assumptions, you'd just fault me for doing so. And no, I didn't build a Jeep I6 when I was 16, I was building Camaros and Trans Ams back then.
I never said the Civic was a rally car...I said that's where the shifter can also be seen, and I gave the reasoning behind it. I agree that they look like mini-er vans, which is why I never argued that point. I have only been talking about the location of the shifter.

here i'll quote it for you:
"...and my hand just skimmed the top of the shifter and i punched the dash instead..."
and now from my other post:
"...hand falls off the shifter..."
hmmmm to me those are the same phrases simply reworded... imagine that i know what I was saying, amazing.
Now my ENTIRE point is that the shifter isn't in a comfortable position. Not once did i say i took my hand off of the shifter, you seem to just be making up stuff as you go along.
and you came and said that the shifter was like that just like rally cars.....does that make it better because some ralliers have it or something?
anyway you seem to have COMPLETELY missed my original point that the shifter is uncomfortable and in a bad position, but whatever.
and ALSO like i said if you feel the need to continue this petty *** argument take it to PM's, im not here to wreck phins' forum, ive done quite well controlling my posts lately, and im not about to change that for you.
