[quote name='SilverSeven' date='Sep 3 2005, 10:33 AM']refˇuge (NOUN):
1. Protection or shelter, as from danger or hardship.
2. A place providing protection or shelter.
The "as in....." in your definition is to give examples. That's not to say that those are the only ways to be defined as a refugee, or that you have to go to a different country to fit the description.

But as you know in our society certain words take up there own meanings after being used for other. ANd when someone first things of refugees they think about the refugees in africa and other parts of the world that are being persecuted for religious or other reasons. So to use it in our own backyards seems retarded since we use this word mainly for third world countries and **** like that. So to use it on our own people reguardless if there black or white or spanish or asiain feels fucked up.
Its like your putting down your own country men and women by referring to them as refugees in there own country. Yes they need shelter and stuff but you dont need to go as far as saying refugee now. YOu can say unfortunate individuals with no shelters etc.
So what is it okay for us to call them bums just cause they dont have homes...
I think they should use different terminolgy to refer to our own citizens thats all.
THe media is portraying it as if president bush said **** the black people and lets only help the whites. I saw on tv white people and other people looting stores and what nots. Its a socio-economic thing goin on . Jus tbecuase they have more black people in certain areas the news shouldnt use that to say look bush is shitting on the ******* and helping the other whities etc
Thats BS the whole place is in ****., YOu got the morons who are stealing looting and raping and they should be dealt with but dont characgterize like that (media) and blame BUSH.
yes response was a little slow but **** man **** happens and in these times communications is always hard.

Oh, I see. You're upset with people for using words that you interpret incorrectly. Jolly good fun. Carry on.

yes i beleive the word is being used incorrectly in this matter. GIven the definition of REFUGEES. They can just say these people are seeking refuge from the devestation dont call them refugees, there not seeking asylum from another country, they live in the same country.
Jolly good
