So my 21 month year old kid made mince meat out of my Motorola Military spec "tuff" phone in about 15 seconds after picking it up.

My cell contract is with Rogers, and everytime I break a phone, they never seem to have any free phone deal going or anything like that, so it usually becomes a 300-400 dollar exercise. I break alot of phones, just due to the nature of my job.

The motorola was supposed to be indestructible, it was far from it, and truth be told, I am not mad at my kid for breaking it, as it was the most user unfriendly, unintuitive annoying phone I have ever had.

So as the title says, anyone have any good online GSM phone buying experiences?

I think I might be better off to stop buying flip phones as well, the hinging case seems to be the first thing to go.

lol

Keep your phone in your pocket and get a Bluetooth earpiece. Hard to break and if you lose it you can get another for $20 - $30

The funny thing is, is most of the time the damage has happened in my pocket!. I crushed one lifting a compressor into place, a welding glob went into my shirt pocket and melted the keys and screen, I got soaked changing a valve, and the phone drowned in my shirt pocket.

I dunno, I tried belt clips and got them ripped off climbing into machines..

Whats the distance on the Blue tooth thingy, maybe if kept the phone in my Tool pouch..?

I've bought off ebay for the most part, about the only thing I buy off of there. There is also a place in town that sells new or refurbished phones with no contract, they are usually about $75 for a regular phone.

I'm not too impressed with the range of mine. When I want to use it it seems like 10 feet maximum, when I don't want to use it it will connect when the phone's in the house and the earpeice is out in the car in the driveway.

For some reason bad weather outside will affect the connection between my phone and earpiece even though they're both in the car, and the connection is worse with the phone against your body vs on the seat next to you.

If by tool pouch you mean tool belt almost any would work. I had a Motorola with my Razr phone and it worked great, except I did not like how the earpeice fit, it would be no good if you're working, it would fall off. My current LG with LG Shine phone fits tight in my ear, but the connection is not as good.

I would get a Motorola earbud design. Connection is supposed to be good to 30 feet. Maybe ask if you can try it out at the store

That would be the ultimate phone setup for tradesmen if they gave it about a 150 foot service distance, 99% of the time when you are working , its all incoming calls. I usually only make calls when I am back in the truck.

I started surfing Ebay, some pretty cheap phones on there. I don't use mine for surfing or music stuff, so I am thinking I might by a couple of real bare bones cheapies off the auctions.

I googled it , and there are tons of online stores, but its hard to tell what is trustworthy and what is not.

iphone in an otterbox rugged case, i know several guys using these on boats and boat captains are the worst to cell phones, water, dropping, throwing and cussing at them like a sailor are just some of the humiliations a boat captains phone must suffer through.

I bought a Samsung sgh-a177 qwerty phone. It was 89 bucks, and is far more user friendly than that POS motorola phone I had. Its bare bones, but I don't use the phone for anything else but, well, a phone, so ...

They gave me this little man purse /murse to carry it in, its kinda gay looking but maybe it will protect the phone for a while..

I looked at the Iphone, but pretty expensive phone and they wanted 90.00 for the otter case on top of it.

I think Motorola is done in the cell market, all their stuff looked pretty crappy compaired to the rest of the brands.
