Gas Station Profits
#1
I've always wondered how much money does a gas station really make per gallon sold. I know they gotta make their money, but what does it average out to be. Im guesstimating 2-3 cents a gallon??? Today at lunch I saw Chevron at 2.44 for regular unleaded and 2.66 for super.........Daaaaiiimmm! I know one of you out there owns a gas station, what does your average profit per gallon? Sometimes its hard to believe they even make a profit from the gas and make up for it with the beer and other goods sold.

It's usually stated on the pump, last I noticed it was something like 39 cents per gallon...........So we pay for registration yearly...roughly 51.00 a year, yearly emission test 40.00 a year plus 39 cents per gallon of gas used, plus 3.00 per tire we need to get rid of and 3.00 per battery, and 5 buck or so to get rid of our used oil at lube shops, we pay federal tax, ssi tax, medicare tax, tax on items we buy, taxes on just about everything...............for whatever government desires and still get ripped off at the pump daily.......that sux!!!

It depends on the station and how its owned, my buddy's dad owned a station, he built the building and the gas co provided him the pumps, covers, etc... the expensive stuff. In return he signed to buy gas from them for 5 years for whatever price they demanded. For that 5 years he usually LOST money on the per gallon, but made a small fortune on the crap in the convenience store. After the 5 years was up, he renegotiated and ended up moving to another provider, Texaco at that point he was making 10 to 15 cents a gallon and depending on the volume I think you can get close to 25 cents a gallon.
This was of course in washington state and taxes, prices and I am sure profit change from state to state.

We own 2 of them, one is a Chevron and one is independent. We make 4-6 cents per gallon when prices are as high as they are now, and a lil more when the prices are down closer to normal.
At the Chevron, we don't set our own prices. 5 cents per gallon no matter what...
