Drove An Fd Today

Mike- I think its just easier to beat on a 1st gen, they are so easy to drive and they are a blast, I used mine as a daily for years, when it snowed I would put 1 50lb bag of sand behind each seat and I got great traction!
Maybe you also feel its a good car to beat on because of the replacement value, lol

[quote name='Rob x-7' date='Oct 13 2003, 12:56 PM'] I had a 1985 GS, and I would say it was one of the best cars to drive
as a daily, even a FC is a easy daily driver, a FD I dont know if I could drive one everyday. Maybe if you lived where there was no snow and ice, or you dont drive alot.

exactly i live in the NE and drive 40 miles to work each day. i wouldn't dream of trying to drive the FD daily.

hmm, so i shouldnt make the jump from FB to FD then, huh? specially if im gonna try and drive it daily in new jersey winter(s).
mike, how would you compare the rides between the FD and the GSLSE?(I know they are nothing alike, but your expertise on how u like em, since u own both) cause the more i think about getting or even looking at an FD, i think ill miss the GSLSE way too much.

wasnt it the same sort of circumstances that made you take apart your car
to turbo it? I was expecting this to be a topic like that one:
"if I had riden in one years ago I would never have bothered with my GXL", or something to that effect, lol.
When did you get a TII anyhow?
YEARS ago I was shopping for a FD, im talking 7 years ago mind you.
Back then I couldnt find a FD that wasnt in a accident, I couldnt find a
original one, and this was 7 years ago. I drove 2 of them, the first one had the whole back end of the car repainted and was a bit wavvy.
Some I looked at I didnt even bother to drive.
The second one I drove only had the drivers door repainted- the result of a bicycle
falling onto it in the garage, numerous pictures the owner took of it backed this claim up. While driving the car, I asked him why so many of them were wrecked, and his response was it was a hard car to drive, like if you drive it everyday and its raining its a easy car to wreck. He said it almost takes some work to drive it carefully and that it reacts so quickly to driver input that he could see why people wreck it so easily.
The car did drive nice, it did feel like it was in rails. Needless to say my quest ended when I couldnt find a original one that had no paintwork on it, except a extremely low mileage female owned automatic..... which I didnt even bother to drive.

I won't ever trade my fc for a 3rd gen or sell to buy one.
I just want both My fc isn't really going to be all that streetable with(shooting for) 475@the wheels at low( ) boost settings.. And plus its turning into a drag car, but I really want it to be nimble in the twisties; Can't have both with the same car..
I honestly don't know whats in store for me in the future, If I ever do crash my t2, its FD time..

actually that maybe is right, with the fd you're always worried about it overheating, and the boost spiking, or whether the door panel will fall of in your hand, wheather the smoke coming from under the hood is oil coolant or gas etc etc
with the fb you have none of that, and my fb runs just as fast at thunderhill as most of the fd's, it just doesnt have the straighaway speed

i've only driven one first gen they are fun because there is nothing to break. the car i have driven the most was my 89 GTU. that thing was unstoppable!
my old T2 was one of the best cars i owned too. i broke the clutch and a few other things including the already dead engine lol
i honestly can't wait to get my T2 running... i already learned from the black car what's gonna break. the only thing i haven't addressed is the POS stock turbo
fd's are basically race cars........ the fastest cars i have driven are FD's...... i am a good test driver though. i only break my own cars
