Divorce

my parents got divorced a year ago. Miss the family feeling of a home, feels empty now. But you gotta do what you gotta do, I miss it the most on Sundays when we used to have a family dinner and stuff. Coming home to a empty house a lot feels kinda sad.

Tips? Well having been there and done that so to speak, be ready for one hell of a learning experience.
I would look at it as a game show and whomever has the most stuff at the end wins.
Figure out what she wants, then tell her she cant have it, then in the end trade her everything for the few things she wants. LOL
That said. No mercy, you worked hard for the **** and she's trying to screw you out of it.
Good luck!

No kids, that is very good. It's really sad when kids are involved, they tend to become pawns in some sick power game. I think you should go for the "what's mine stays mine" and vice versa, unless you all have a bunch of mutual property, in which case find a DAMN good lawyer and be prepared to pay a lot.

I have been through a divorce.
Heed the advice given. If it is like mine, an attempt to stab you in the back is on its way and you should have a good lawyer on your side.
I own my dental practice. My ex was a dentist that was supposed to work in this practice with me. We built a large building to accomodate two dentists. She never worked a day here during our whole 3 1/2 years of marriage. When we seperated, it was her idea for the divorce but she wanted me to get the lawyer and handle it and she said she would not put up a fight or a fuss. We agreed to a seperation of any "stuff" like furniture but the practice would be mine and she would not fight for any of it since she had nothing to do with its success.
Well, after I got an attorney, she got an attorney and next thing I knew she was fighting me for part of the practice. She felt she deserved some money because of the dental practice she never worked a day in in her life. Needless to say she got nothing except for an expensive attorney bill.
She went from saying don't worry I won't fight for anything to literally telling me she deserved money for doing nothing and had an attorney to back her up.
Get a good attorney.....When it is just you and your soon to be ex talking there are so many emotions involved that things are said just to get out of the relationship and the situation. When your soon to be ex goes and talks with her family and other friends, things change. Get a good lawyer.

then just get the papers drawn up and get it done, you dont even need lawyers for uncontested divorce, you can hire a legal secretary to fill out the paper work.
when there is nothing to split up its easy to do, just takes time depending on your state, about 1 year in New York.

I'm going through one right now. With no kids it's easy. Plus my house was an inheritence(sp?), so she can't touch it
I would reccomend you get a lawyer just to protect your ***. My lawer is charing me only $500 since he sees no big issues that can arise.
NJ can be up to 18 months for an uncontested divorce.
