confederate flag
#1
So anyhow, now that i live in the southeast I definetely notice a little more "racial tension" so to speak that I wasn't really exposed to in Washington State. Anyhow, I saw two cars today with confederate flag stickers on them and I got to thinking, isn't that pretty racist? I meant the confeteracy faught to keep the slaves from being freed, doesn't it seem a bit like a step backwards to be waiving the confederate flag or is there something I am missing here?

For some its a heritage thing, and has nothing to do with racial stuff.
this is true, but the majority of the people who see it, see it as a racial 'symbol'.
I am included in that majority, maybe I don't know everything there is to know about the confederacy during the Civil War, but what I've been exposed to, seen on tv, been told in school, yadda yadda yadda, is that the confederate flag is associated with the 'evil' things about the south during the civil war. i.e. slavery.

slaves were owned by both the north and the south in the days prior to the war.... the war had nothing to do with slavery.. it was to prevent the splitting of the nation. However, most hicks with the confederate flag have no idea about the history behind it at all, and just uses it as a racist trademark.
PS. **** nascar too.

And this is why we have such ignorance in the united states. I was not born in the south, nor do I condone slavery, but youre corrct when you say the majority of people see it as a racist symbol. Its pure ignorance that causes this... sorry, but thats true. If you want to believe that the civil war was based soley around slavery than you are extremely stupid. Unfortunatly most the united states is very stupid. Jesus, didnt anyone pick up a history book in school? Browse the internet for crying out loud... Im a high school drop out and I've been tested more intelligent than 95% of the world. I hate history .... and even I know simple facts. Yikes!

Yeah, unfortuatly most southern states have the worst public education systems. Its also more common to find completely retarded people down in the more midwest/southern states. Not saying everyone in that area is stupid, because idiots live everywhere... I'm just saying its more common as a whole.
ps. I agree, **** NASCAR its the gayest motorsport ever to be conceived.
