I ordered cable internet at our new place mainly because they made me an offer I can't refuse. We have two cable providers in our area and they are tossing out some really nice deals for their internet service. I have my doubts about whether or not it will compare with DSL, but for half the cost of DSL I can't complain too much unless it really sucks. Any of you guys have cable interent? You like it, love it, hate it or what?

Exclamation

I've heard that the cable could be the same speed or faster than DSL, but when a bunch of people get on it (like you mentioned) it could get bogged down.

I like my DSL for the security and some speeds that they have now is compaired to cable so get a good modem.

I love Cable... it's not popular in my town, so speed is no problem.. my friend has ADSL and I hate him for it.. lol take so long to send me ****. But it's ok when he sends me stuff.

Cable is plug and play too.. no PoP BS and other configurations like that...

As of right now.. i love cable..

Trust me my Firewall will be far more secure than any tel company firewall. I am going to run a linux box as a DHCP server so all of the boxes will access the cable connection via the Red Hat DHCP server....

Come on man you knew I was one step ahead of you on that one!

Yea I know, my bad Bro.

I was just replying what you told me in the past between the differences between the two. The security for other people can be in the question, but you and your Ft. Knox computer system network is something your friend Bill could appreciate!

Talking

I'm on Quest, but I'm not to thrilled about their service. It works ok, but their modems suck.

My parents just got the Verizon so I'll check out how well that is.

Well I won't go Qwest because they are pushing the MSN service and their is no way those bastards are getting my money... plus I noticed that they are like 640K down and 256K up... very sad. No verizon available, have two cable companies offering cable internet, but I called the other one today and they want $10.00 per month for the same level of service screw that. I am going to buy my own modem after three months IF I am happy with the service.

Makes me feel better though sounds like I made the right choice not going with Qwest. Anyone that pushes an MS product makes me nervous
