Hi everyone- in need of some advice/help here. I have a 90 RX7, around 155,000km. It has been really well cared for and is in better shape than most that I see around town.

All of a sudden yesterday (after no apparent previous problems) the car would not start. The engine was turning over, but it just wouldn't fire. Usually it starts up within seconds of turning the key, but now it just stubbornly turns over. There is also a funny smell coming out of the exhaust- kind of smells like fuel, but not like the engine is flooded or anything.

The engine is in good shape- it blows a little bit of blue smoke in the morning if I haven't driven it in a couple days, but other than that, once it is warmed up- it runs very clean.

Does anyone know what may have gone wrong, or what I am going to have to do to get this thing going again? Any help would be appreciated.

the only thing i can think of its that its flooded. Floor the gas pedal while turning over, this kills the fuel pump...=) just keep on turning until it shows life. Also check your ignition, make sure its ok.

They can be little bitches when you dont drive em for a few days. they get jealous or something.

You flooded it and it wont start now, they tend to get that weird no start thing now and them, take the plugs out, drop a little bit of Marvel Mystery Oil down the spark plug holes, pull the fuse for the fuel injection right there next to the battery, bump the engine and insure you get some oil in there, let it sit overnight so it really soaks in good, then the next day crank it for a sec with no plugs or the fuse for the FI in, then put the plugs back in, put the fuse back in, and start the car, it will smoke..... ALOT, I mean a whole lot. Rev it up, take it for a nice blast, then be sure to put fresh plugs back in, your car will probably be running even better then it did before. If it ever seems like it wont start again and it cranks kind of fast, take that fues out RIGHT away, crank the engine until it sounds normal, it will probably start for a sec even though the fuse is out, then put the fuse back in.

Ok, thanks for the replies so far-- what is marvel mystery oil and where can i get ahold of some- or what would be a good substitute?

Also, to get oil in the engine... how do I 'bump' it? Do you mean turn the ignition over?

Any auto parts store would sell it, its a product older then all of us, get one of those $3.99 funnels that have the small flexible tube attached so you can get the oil to the plug holes, some people use transmission fluid, I never did use it preferring the Marvel oil as it is more easily burned off and wont clog your converters. Yes I mean turn it over, but only hit the key for a sec, remember to pull the FI fuse out first. I just bought a 87 RX-7 GXL from a guy who said it had mechanical problems, turned out he had it flooded and now its fine! SO far, 2 running sevens, and one not running ( for now )
