If i could get 3dsmax 5 to stop being a bitch and smooth the whole thing i'd put it into there and make better pics.

Those are just development pics, generally the person creating it doesn't want full on anti-alias, great lighting, etc, as it takes forever to manipulate. What you guys want are renders.
The models coming along nice, is this for a game? Planning any sort of animation for us?

MeshSmooth is where it's at. That's what you need to make your model look better.
