3000gt Vr-4 Or Fd
#1
I'm currently saving up for a car. Since i cant find any TII's nearby i've decided to just save up for something a bit newer. Anyways this is what i've narrowed it down to as i really need something kinda fast. I've always wanted a 7 but those are at least 10k where i can find a 3000GT VR-4 for less than 6k. And the problem is that extra 3 grand is at least a full 'nother year of saving which i've already waited quite some time saving.
Anyways post feedback, try to keep it somewhat positive.

having driven both and been around both for a few years....i can say that the rx7 is much more fun, moddable, and an overall more amazing experience and journey
vr4 is a fun GT car....its heavy and sticks to the road with its AWD....the car really shines on the track and drag strip for a stock car.....honestly if it was 2900-3100 lb from factory it would be a blissfully fun car
now the FD is different, in the perfect weight range, RWD, and a rotary engine to boot.....everyone knows about the rx7 here so im not gonna get into details
where it really gets down and dirty though, is aftermarket and maitenance:
everyone here knows the rx7 has a huge aftermarket support , and it is sometimes more expensive and dead than other cars
yet the vr4 is somewhat similar, while somewhat different:
not a big aftermarket support ....
everything in the car is extremely expensive, whether upgrade or OEM, and hard to work on.....there is absolutely NO room in the engine bay, and ugh i hate the V6 in general
better bet....get an FD

dumb question. VR4's are extremely overweight, and simply don't look as beautiful as the FD. i wouldn't trade my FD for a viper, ferrari or any other car.
edit: sorry not a dumb question i'm a little drunk and it's the 4th WOOHOO.

Anyways thanks FS for that writeup, I had forgotten about the all around priceyness of VR-4's including OEM repairs.

I know a guy that has a VR-4 and its modded for Autocross. I cannot express how bad I kill him at events. I have raced a very modded VR-4 on the road with my TII when it was close to stock the only mods I had were intake and exhaust I pulled him pretty bad.
Those are my experiences racing them.
My wifes uncle has one. Its tranny self destructed at 37K miles. It cost him $5K to get the tranny fixed!! He fought with Mitsubishi for 6 months because the car was 1K miles out of warranty they never helped him out. He is also a 55+ year old man that babies the car since he bought it new. It seems this tranny thing (5 speed) it common among the VR-4's. I can't help but think how many sweet mods I could do to my TII for $5K.
