KD Rotary has been working on a new project that may be of interest to some you us and has asked me to post this to the net and see who raises their hands. All of us know about the mid-engined Mazda 4 rotor SP’s that won LeMans. KD has been designing a variant of the finest mid-engined, lightweight kit car available… using either 2 or 3 rotor Mazda power. If you have never heard of it or seen it or just want to reflect on what’s being discussed, go directly to www.ultimasports.co.uk right now and take a look at the "Ultima GTR. See an 1800 pound mid-engined, tubular chassis car that was used by McLaren to as their test mule. Powered by a Chevy small-block, these things do 0-60 in 3.6 seconds and top out over 160!!!
KD Rotary thinks there are 20 or more idiots out there willing to pay about $80,000 for one of these things "built your way" and with a Mazda 3 rotor thrashing the diff gears past 8,000 rpm. If you read the numerous articles reprinted on Ultima’s site, you’ll see a few people talk about a bit of vibration caused by the Chevy V8 and some complaints about the "crude" Yankee power-plant. With a mildly tweaked 3 rotor putting 550-600 rwhp down and an 8,000 rpm redline, KDR’s "UltimaT-Rotory" should better the 0-60 times and top out over 190 while being smooth and reliable.
This beast is no kit car. No Factory Five repli-Cobra. No Corvette wearing Ferrari clothing. It’s the real deal. This is a sophisticated race car for the street. The standard ("standard"?) brakes, suspension, cooling, and drivetrain (Porsche G50 transaxle good enough for you?) are the stuff we dream of adding to our gorgeous 3rd gens.
