Cheers, happen to know what other Ontario universities do this? I was looking at studying engineering after I'm done here at Sheridan, with computer programming. Is it just mech. eng that does it, or is it a special program? Who gets to drive it?

U of T downtown campus, McGill, McMaster, Queen's, Waterloo, Western, Carleton, U of Ottawa (i think), University of Windsor, and i think that is about it.

Although McGill isn't in Ontario.

The big players are Waterloo and U of T with super dupa big budgets.

Rx7aggie, btw we finish our cost report we are around 15,000 USD for the whole car.

yeah, were still working on ours, the cost report that is. my pullrods, ARB links, steering links, and rear toe links cost less than $5 a peice each it's offsetting out pricey shocks though.

the chassis is painted, maroon with pearl flakes, along with all other steel parts that might rust; looks kick ***! it will be complete and running by friday.

did yall cost your shocks at cost from Fox ($230) or cost from a dealer ($375+)? we cost them at the Fox price last year, i think, and got busted for it since we aren't a dealer.

Tip - Driving school.

I watched FIT at one of our Autocrosses and those boys sucked at driving. If you spend as much time on the driver as you do on the car you will win even if there are better cars there.

If I understand this correctly you are going to compete in an Autocross type of competition correct?

Practice like theres no tomarrow.

Good idea, the team should go find bridgestone driving academy at mosport and ask for a sponsorship for driving school. We tried that already... they said sorry.

In reality there isn't much driving time for canadian schools. There is only maybe 3 to 4 weeks of weather for driving after we finish the car. That is if we finish the car, last year the car was built in the last 3 days before the big competition.

Else there is snow on the groud or it is pouring rain. The edurance event is weight heavily, but any team that manages to finish the endurance event is gauranteed to do well. it boils down to winning design points from months of design and fabrication.

BTW not many teams finish the enduro, u would think after 8 months of design and fab the car would run for 25+ mins

=)

We costed 375. That is what our reciept says, FOX will not cut Canadian Universities a discount for Formula SAE race cars, they only give them to american schools.

The Distrubutors here in Canada charge even more then that.

yeah, we have driver tryouts in the fall in a rented ford crown victoria, autox style, and all drivers with times better than our professor get to progress to the next stage of tryouts.

most guys that get that far have autox experience with the A&M sports car club. we usually select like 8 drivers or so.

they then autox in our past year's cars, narrowing the drivers down to 4, with the 2 fastest running in the autox and endurance events.

i think i heard it put that autox is like 60% driver and 30% tires, the rest is a fast car. something like that. either way, we put a huge emphasis on driver training, and ensure that our car is finished near spring break so we can get 4 weeks of hard running in on our car.

we will be finished this friday, and i will get some good pics of our car. we start final reassembly on wednesday. the engine has been tuned to two maps, one for each of our two runner lengths (different settings for autox and enduro events).

that's odd, because the price we paid was what Fox charges the dealer, not a discount to us. we still went to through the middle man, only he gave them to us at his cost, plus shipping and credit charges.

still, we got it all for like $970 for 4 shox, shipping, and credit charges.

i dont see why fox charged yall so much.

i heard UTA just finished their car. big improvement over last year, where they didn't finish it till a week before competition.

still, all they do is copy the previous year's design, which they've been doing for the past 15+ years. oh well, time for the newbies to take over...
