Well It's Been A Long Weekend.

Most of the forum was restored, the only thing lost was a few thousand posts... I think we can survive that.
As to what went on here over the weekend only one word to describe it... AMAZING.
Seeing everyone pull together and bring things back around was impressive. Some of you I've never talked to, others daily. But no matter what the case I want to thank you personally for this weekends efforts and hopefully your continued efforts.
A few posts were indeed lost, so please be patient if yours was one of the many, please feel free to get the ball rolling and get these up again.

Thank you for the hard work. Without you and the forum members nopistons would not exist. I know I don't contribute much, but I think I am good for a laugh or two, and I truly like this place although I don't post that much anymore.

There's always been backups, it's the fact that they don't work that is the issue. As I mentioned previously our new drive mirroring system was set to come online this weekend, i just wanted the time to read up on it and figure it out. This system mirrors our hard drives and is a one click restore.
I have this up and running and will be doing a test restore on a backup forum, we'll see if that works. The daily seems to havin issues with the large mysql db, I'll have to figure out what to do there down the road, right now the offsite backup is my #1 priority.
I got caught in a bad spot this time around, we had just moved servers and I had not checked the backups as of yet, again I was hoping to get this new system online.

Whaddup 'Heads,
I'm glad to see the walls of our illustrious community mended and fortified!
All us Rotards still have a home . This is way too cool of a resource to meet such an unfortunate demise.
Great work to all involved. Much props!!!

which raid system are you using? RAID 10 or 5 work pretty good. I'm unfamiliar about how much load a forum takes on a HDD but I don't think its much. Doubt striping would help, or does it help with searches hmmmmmmm? Then RAID 10 can bust out the mirroring and striping!
anyways, good job on the recovery!
I've lost a total of 3 HDDs, a total of 600+gb this month! mainly due to heat, mostly cyclic redundancy errors but 90% of the data was recovered with many filenames fouled up. Anyways let us know if you need help next time, hopefully there wont be another next time!

Great job putting the Forum back together. I had two major system crashes this year while I was trying to backup my pc , but I can not imagine what it takes to keep a Forum together that has been active for so long.
Best regards to all,

I just want to say that you guys are awesome for not only getting almost everything back, but just for keeping the sit e going in general. I know that some of the other boards have been having trouble like this and they have just folded and pretty much bailed on their members. Not nopistons though, that is the type of commitment that builds a stong community.
